Berl Gene Padgett entered his heavenly home on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the age of 85, at his residence in Sand Springs, surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

A funeral service celebrating Berl's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Osage Hills Christian Church, with Minister Hershel Martin and Minister Steve Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Army will follow at Woodland Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Friday, May 30, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Berl was born on November 24, 1939, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, to Ephraim Terry Padgett and Edith Frances (Nolan) Padgett. He grew up in Stilwell and Smithville before his family settled in Sand Springs, where he was a member of the Sand Springs High School Class of 1957.

Berl was drafted into the U.S. Army, beginning his service at Fort Polk before being stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. During a return trip to Hawaii years later, he proudly showed his children where he had once served.

A lifelong baseball player, Berl was a right-hander who pitched left-handed—a combination that made him tough to hit. He and his brother, Nolan, were an unbeatable duo on the field. Berl later passed his love for the sport on to his children and grandchildren, coaching their teams with patience, dedication, and pride.

After his military service, Berl began working as a welder for NATCO (National Tank), where he stayed for 15 years. In 1974, he became one of the first employees hired at Ford Glass, where he worked as a journeyman pipefitter until his retirement in 2010. Even after retiring, he continued part-time work with Ford and helped his son, Chris, with his plumbing and air business. Berl also taught pipefitting at TCC and Ford Glass, passing on his knowledge and work ethic to others.

Berl never truly retired—he was always on the go, helping others, especially widows and his church community. He served faithfully as a deacon at Osage Hills Christian Church, where he and his wife, Jo Ann, were active members for over 60 years. Berl lived out the true example of a biblical deacon, always willing to serve with humility, integrity, and quiet strength. He was also a dedicated member of The Challenger Sunday School class.

Berl and Jo Ann were married for 66 years, 4 months, and 1 day, having been united in marriage on January 24, 1959, at Sand Springs Church of God. Together, they raised a beautiful family rooted in faith and love. For the past two years, Berl and Jo Ann have lovingly raised their great-grandson, Bradie, who became a cherished blessing and a special source of pride for Berl.

He loved traveling with Jo Ann, especially on cruises, and visited many countries. He enjoyed the outdoors—hunting deer, duck, and pheasant; fishing; and camping. Berl passed on his skills and passion for the outdoors to his children, Chris and Jill. He took great care of his home and yard, proudly maintaining an immaculate lawn and a thriving garden. Bible study and hospitality were a regular part of life in the Padgett home.

Berl was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, faithful friend, hardworking provider, and humble servant. He was always present at school events and activities for his grandkids and was known for his deep commitment to his family. His dog, Lily, a stray who found a forever home with Berl, was his constant companion—his little "shadow."

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Harlan Hughes.

Berl is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann Padgett of the home; son, Chris Allan Padgett and wife Robin of Sand Springs; daughter, Jill Annette Honeycutt and husband Jerry of Sand Springs; grandchildren: Ashley Nichole Padgett Adams, Melanie Renee Honeycutt, Chris "C.J." Padgett II and wife Bethany, Amanda Rachel Honeycutt, and Caleb Hunter Padgett and wife Paige; great-grandchildren: Bradie Gene, Kaden Blair, Bryson Reed, Finley Wynter, Daxton Jack, Lennox Belle, Hank Allan, and Cohen Hunter (due in October); sister, Frances Hughes of Sapulpa; and brother, Nolan Lee Padgett and wife Patricia of Los Cruces, New Mexico.

Berl will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His life was a testimony of faith, family, and service, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
