Betty Geneva Brown went to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the age of 97. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 27, at the Mobley-Groesbeck Chapel with Pastor Rick Cope officiating. Betty will be laid to rest at Woodland Memorial Park. Visitation will be 12-8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

Betty was born September 26, 1925, in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to Earl Surrrett and Grace (Chappell) Surrett. She grew up in the country outside of Osage. She played the flute and twirled her baton as a majorette in the Osage High School band. During her senior year, Betty began dating her high school sweetheart, Joe Ross "J.R." Brown, Jr. They were united in marriage on September 30, 1944, in Sand Springs and made their home in Prattville.

After high school, Betty worked for Oklahoma Power and Water Company, Sand Springs Railway, and Sinclair Oil Company before staying home to raise their daughters, Kathryn and Carol.

Betty always had a beautiful smile and will be remembered for her sweet and quiet nature. She was a longtime member of Angus Acres Baptist Church where she loved singing in the church choir. She also enjoyed long walks, reading, shopping (especially at Dillard's), going to movies, and baking for her family. She loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, brother (Bobby Earl Surrett), and her infant sister.

Survivors include her loving husband of 78 years, J.R. Brown of the home; daughters: Kathryn Rawlings of Cascais, Portugal, Carol White and husband, Dennie, of Norman; grandchildren: Amy Rawlings, Erin Rawlings, Lindsay Gunn and husband, Andy, Morgan Gomez and husband, Nichy, and Zac Weaver and wife, Addie; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Angus Church, 4401 S. 129th W. Ave., Sand Springs, OK 74063.
