Billie Joe Goodnight, 79, formerly of Sand Springs, passed away on Tuesday November 9, 2021 in Tulsa, OK.

Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service, Sand Springs has been entrusted with the care of Joe and his family.

Joe was very affectionately called Porchy, a nickname that was given to him by his late grandson and his granddaughter.

Joe was born on March 14, 1942 to Bernie and Shirley (Simpson) Goodnight in Jefferson City, Missouri.  He proudly served in the US Navy, was a decorated sailor and was honorably discharged in 1964. He continued working in his chosen field while obtaining his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired from John Zink Company where he was the Director of the Vapor Recovery Unit. He was very proud of his work which worked to decrease emissions from our environment.

Joe married Catherine White in 1970. They had a son and a daughter. Their son, Billie Dale, preceded him in death in 2001. His wife, Cathy, preceded him in death in 2006. Their grandson, Alex Boodt, also preceded him in death in 2017.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Melissa Jo Boodt, her husband, Randy Boodt, and his granddaughter, Emma Boodt. He is also survived by three sisters and their families, his late wife's sister and brother along with their families and many very dear friends that he made throughout his life.

Porchy is missed by all who knew him, most especially the "family of his heart" which is how he referred to the people he came to love in Stroud and Stillwater.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
