Her friendly, talkative nature made people feel welcome, and she was always willing to go out of her way to help someone.

Cara LaNell Poyndexter entered her heavenly home on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Cimarron Pointe Nursing Home in Mannford, Oklahoma, at the age of 70. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

Cara was born on June 8, 1956, in Gatesville, Texas, to Floyd L. “F.L.” Medford and Ruby Nell (Walker) Medford. She grew up in Gatesville, Texas, and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1974.

It was while working at The Snack Shack that Cara met Ronald Gene Poyndexter, who was stationed at Fort Hood. From that time forward, they shared a life together. Cara and Ronald were married on October 14, 1977, in Gatesville, Texas, and eventually made their home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, where they raised their family.

Cara was a hardworking woman who was always willing to learn something new and look for opportunities to better herself. In 1992, she attended Career Point Business School, where she studied business accounting and graduated with the goal of advancing herself and moving forward in her career. As part of that career venture, she was assigned to work in door-to-door collections for loan companies. Cara gave it a try for several months, but after realizing the risks involved, she decided that the job was not worth compromising her personal safety and chose to move on.

She loved to talk, loved people, and never seemed to meet a stranger.

Cara worked at Wendy’s for a short time before spending many years at Arby’s. She later worked at Kmart and then Walmart, where she became so much more than an employee to the people she served. Cara had regular customers who would come into Walmart just to see her. Her friendly, talkative nature made people feel welcome, and she was always willing to go out of her way to help someone. She had a gift for making connections with people, and many will remember her simply because she made their day a little brighter.

Cara was a loving, caring, considerate, and generous woman. She was a treasure to be around, and her personality filled a room. She loved to talk, loved people, and never seemed to meet a stranger. Her family and friends will especially remember her big heart and the genuine care she showed to others.

Cara and Ron loved traveling and especially enjoyed taking spontaneous weekend trips together. Some of their favorite destinations included Branson, Hawaii, Eureka Springs, and Graceland. Cara was a huge Elvis fan and loved all things Elvis. One of their last trips together was to Graceland, which they visited just one month before Ron passed away. Those adventures and memories were precious to Cara and remained a special part of her life.

Cara enjoyed arts and crafts shows, farmers markets, and, of course, shopping. She was an avid collector and over the years collected ducks, apples, and later country-themed items. But perhaps nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She loved hanging out with them and treasured every opportunity to be part of their lives.

She had a way of making people feel like they mattered, and her generous heart and unforgettable personality will live on in all who knew and loved her.

Cara was a longtime member of Olivet Baptist Church and most recently attended Victory Church in Tulsa.

Cara’s beloved husband, Ronald, passed away on October 20, 2018. Though his passing left an empty place in her heart, the love and life they shared remained a cherished part of her story. She was also preceded in death by her parents, F.L. and Ruby Medford.

Cara is survived by her children: Darron Poyndexter and Malinda Rardin and her husband, Nick; her grandchildren: Kaylee, Meghan, Kayden, Isaiah, Malachi, and Carson; her brother, Carey Medford and his wife, Donna; her sister, Karen Williams and her husband, Johnny; along with numerous extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

Cara leaves behind a lifetime of memories filled with family, friendship, laughter, travel, shopping, Elvis, collecting, and countless conversations. She had a way of making people feel like they mattered, and her generous heart and unforgettable personality will live on in all who knew and loved her.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that Cara is now reunited with Ron and has entered her heavenly home.
