Carl Edmond
Fisher
Feb 6, 1945 — Sep 23, 2022
Sapulpa
Carl Edmond Fisher, 77, of Sand Springs passed away in Tulsa after a short illness, with his family there for him. He was a Christ follower, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, deacon and lifelong Sooner fan.
Born in Sand Springs, OK, in 1945, Carl lived in the Sand Springs, Sapulpa and Tulsa areas his entire life. He married his "dream girl", Miss Sand Springs, 1965, after a year of college at University of Oklahoma. A BP-Amoco retiree, he served there 32 years before stops at Lucent Technologies and Automated Mail. Eventually Carl became a Sand Springs Wal-Mart Associate working in the Lawn & Garden department and in more recent years, as a Loss Prevention Associate. Over his nearly 20 years there, he made many friends among customers and co-workers. He considered them extended family from his community within a community.
Carl enjoyed tracking Fisher genealogy which got faster and easier as digital records became available receiving calls and e-mails from genealogy researchers all over the country. His experience in computer operations and management, from the late 1960's through the 90's, made him one of the original "early adapters". He taught his sons to use computers so they could be "technological natives" before the term existed.
Every day he spent cheering the Sooners on at Owen Field was a great day. His boys couldn't help but follow his lead, becoming Sooner fans themselves and his wife by extension. When he wasn't wearing a Wal-Mart hat to work, he was sporting a crimson and cream hat with the interlocking OU on it.
He also liked to join family in Dallas for a Mexican dinner, or an evening of dining at one of the area's Brazilian Steakhouses where he definitely had "all he could eat" on more than one occasion. It was commonplace for Carl to attend OSU Jazz Orchestra concerts, even on work nights so he could hear his grandson play the saxophone. When he got to see his granddaughter, he always made her feel special by telling her she was his favorite granddaughter and creating puns on the fly.
Carl's dry Sooner wit and compassion endeared him to those who took the time to get to know him, brightening the day of passers-by as well. On behalf of the Fishers, thank you to all those who respected him, had a laugh with him or heard one of his stories he loved to tell. Although he would not want to be missed, that is just not possible.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cherry; his son, Carl Jr. and wife Shelly of Westport, OK; his son, Charles and wife Lindy of Flower Mound, TX; and his son, Clark, of The Colony, TX. Granddaughter Stephanie of Connecticut, grandson Kyle of Stillwater, OK, and cat, Spunky, also remain. His family of faith at Foundation Church, Sapulpa, was also of great importance to him.
Visitation will be held at Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service on Monday October 3, 2022 from 12 noon til 8 pm, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral services will be held at Foundation Church 7785 S. Hwy 97 Sapulpa, OK on Tuesday October 4 at 10 am, with Pastor Scott Hamilton officiating.
