Charles Wayne Nunley was born August 7, 1933, in Turley, Oklahoma. He was born to Clyde Nunley and Ruth Copeland Nunley. Charles "Chuck" joined the Navy in January of 1951 and proudly served for 23 years. During that time, he was fortunate to serve all around the world. He began his career in San Diego before moving to Rhode Island for Naval Justice School. After that training, he was stationed in Norman, Oklahoma where he met his first wife, and they embarked on the first stop of his naval journey to Japan That deployment was followed with time in New Orleans, Guam, Washington D.C and Spain. His final assignment, prior to his retirement, brought him full circle back to San Diego. There were many interim months spent on ships, traveling from one area to another. After his retirement in 1976, Chuck moved his family back to Oklahoma where his heart had been all along.

Chuck was an active and happy man who ran a temporary labor business and then drove a school bus once he had retired from the labor company. He was a favorite driver with his riders who often referred to him as "Grandpa" because he was easy to talk to and got along with everyone so well. Chuck had a huge heart when it came to children, and his love for children showed in both work and in his family life. Chuck married Patsy Byars in 1957, and they divorced in 1981. He married Jena Whittington in 1981 and was happily married to Jena until her passing in 2008. During that time, Chuck was thrilled to be able to adopt Jena's children, Gregory and Brandy. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ruth Nunley, his brothers Al Stowe and Dale Nunley, and his son Gregory Nunley.

Chuck is survived by his son Timothy Nunley of Oklahoma City, Kayla Murphree of Broken Arrow, Dolly Scott and husband Mike of Broken Arrow, Brandy Goodman and husband Aaron of Sand Springs, sisters in law Irene Nunley of Tulsa and Irma Stowe of Yates Center, Kansas. Chuck was always happy to be around kids and left behind 17 grandchildren ,14 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.
