Clara Faye Mercy-Monteith, age 86, passed from this life on December 31, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services are under the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

Faye was born on September 25, 1939, in Morrison, Oklahoma, to Cecil Parsons Nichols and Rhoda Elizabeth (James) Nichols. She graduated from Morrison High School in 1957, where she was a standout member of the girls' basketball team that won a state championship her senior year.

She was a faithful employee and store manager of Oklahoma Army Surplus in Tulsa for over 38 years. Faye continued working with dedication until the store closed just shortly before her passing. Her work brought her great purpose and fulfillment throughout her life.

Faye was an avid reader and found great joy in watching westerns on television. She enjoyed yard work and gardening and dearly loved her grandchildren. She was especially known for her cooking skills, family favorites included her broccoli rice casserole, chicken and noodles, pecan pie, and sweet potato casserole. Though she was not feeling her best this past Christmas, she still found the strength to prepare these beloved dishes with the help of her granddaughter for the family gathering.

Faye preferred staying close to home and her work responsibilities rather than traveling, but in her younger years she made a memorable trip to Hawaii and enjoyed traveling with her family to Branson, Missouri.

She was a longtime faithful member of Harrison Memorial United Methodist Church and more recently attended Olivet Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Mercy and her second husband, Gene Monteith; her parents, Cecil and Rhoda Nichols; her sisters, Geneva Christie and Wanda Veit; and her brother, Richard Nichols.

Faye is survived by her son Craig Mercy and wife Sheila of Arkansas and their children Meaghan Mercy-Alexander and husband Cody of Florida, and Zachary Mercy of Arkansas; her son Lance Mercy and wife Karen; her grandchildren, Takisha, Kassie, Sara, Colton, Gary, and Michelle; her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Avery, Kingston, and Jullian; along with many nephews and nieces; her long time friend and coworker, Bill LaPorte; and her caring neighbors, Ernie and Tamara West.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Sand Springs Animal Welfare
