In Loving Memory of Claudia Joy Scott
April 6, 1944 – July 8, 2026
Claudia's life was a beautiful example of quiet strength, steadfast faith, unconditional love, and selfless devotion to her family.
Claudia Joy Scott, 82, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on April 6, 1944, in Bemis, Tennessee, Claudia was the beloved daughter of Cloyad and Bonnie Phillips. She was the youngest of six children and was blessed with a close-knit family that helped shape the loving and compassionate woman she became.
Claudia dedicated her life to her family. She found her greatest joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and treasured memories. Through every season of life, she remained a steady source of comfort, strength, and unconditional love for those around her.
After the heartbreaking loss of two of her sons, Claudia poured even more of her love into caring for and supporting her grandchildren. She took great pride in watching them grow into adulthood, celebrating their accomplishments, encouraging them through life's challenges, and simply enjoying the time they spent together. One of her greatest blessings was becoming a great-grandmother. Her great-granddaughter, Sophia, brought her immeasurable joy and countless smiles, and Claudia treasured every moment she was able to spend watching another generation of her family grow.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Claudia trusted in the Lord throughout her life. Her faith sustained her through life's greatest joys and its deepest sorrows, and she found peace and encouragement in listening to gospel music. Whether singing along to her favorite hymns or quietly reflecting on God's promises, her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life.
Although Claudia endured heartbreaking losses throughout her life, her resilience, grace, and unwavering love for her family never diminished. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, compassion, and devotion that will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cloyad and Bonnie Phillips; her beloved husband, James Andrew Scott; her sons, Curtis Andrew Scott and Jason Eric "Jake" Scott; her daughter-in-law, Traci Ann Scott, the beloved wife of Jake; her brothers, James Wallace Phillips and Carey Lynn Phillips; her sister Bonnie Faye Walker; her lifelong best friend, Donna Guynn, whose friendship was one of life's greatest blessings; and other loved ones who welcomed her into eternal peace.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Matthew Scott and his longtime partner, Carmon Drummond, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sisters, Carol Jean Kirby of Jackson, Tennessee, and Jo Anne DeSpain of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Lauren Scott, Madison Scott, Alyson Scott, and Dawson Scott; her treasured great-granddaughter, Sophia; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
During the last year of her life, Claudia was lovingly cared for by Savannah Starnes and Braxton Drummond. Their compassion, patience, and dedication helped ensure that Claudia remained comfortable, cared for, and surrounded by kindness throughout her final journey. Claudia grew especially fond of Savannah, whose friendship, gentle spirit, and loving care brought her great comfort and joy. The Scott family extends its deepest gratitude to both Savannah and Braxton for the exceptional care, kindness, and love they showed Claudia. Their devotion will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
Her family also wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Suncrest Hospice and Clarehouse Hospice House. During Claudia's final days, they provided extraordinary comfort, dignity, and peace, not only to Claudia but to her entire family. Their kindness and unwavering support brought immeasurable comfort during a difficult time and will never be forgotten.
Her family finds great comfort in knowing that Claudia has been reunited with her husband, parents, children, daughter-in-law, siblings, her dear friends and the many loved ones who went before her. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior. Those who knew Claudia know there were many people she longed to see again, and there is comfort in believing that a joyful reunion has now taken place.
Claudia's life was a beautiful example of quiet strength, steadfast faith, unconditional love, and selfless devotion to her family. She will be remembered not only for the things she did, but for the way she made people feel—welcomed, loved, and cared for.
