Cletus Ray
Adams
Jul 19, 1941 — Feb 4, 2026
Sand Springs
Cletus Ray Adams, lovingly known to many as "Teed," entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the age of 84. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, February 13, at A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Larry Delay officiating.
Cletus was born on July 19, 1941, in Hominy, Oklahoma, to John Samuel Adams and Helen Marie (Ray) Adams. After living briefly in Bartlesville, the family settled in Sand Springs, the place Cletus always called home. He grew up playing baseball, formed lifelong friendships, and developed a deep pride in his community. A 1959 graduate of Sand Springs High School, Cletus was a diehard Sandite through and through.
After high school, Cletus proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division for two years. While home on Christmas leave, friends introduced him to Georgia Ann Laipple. From the start, she captured his heart. They were married on December 3, 1962, in Sapulpa, and Cletus never stopped referring to her as "his beautiful Georgia."
Cletus dedicated just over 40 years of his life to Ramsey's Winch Company, where he worked his way up to Operations Manager before retiring at the age of 62. His strong work ethic, loyalty, and leadership defined his career.
Faith was an important part of Cletus's early life, and he attended Limestone Baptist Church while growing up. In his mid-20s, he found another passion in car racing, traveling far and wide to drag race for nearly a decade. Later in life, golf became his obsession, one he loved sharing with others—especially teaching his grandson, Cale, how to play.
A fierce competitor with a big smile, Cletus was a devoted sports fan. He followed all OU sports, cheered for Oklahoma teams, and back in the day rooted for the Dallas Cowboys. Nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandchildren play basketball or any sport they chose. To his grandchildren, he was simply "Papa," while his great-grandchildren affectionately knew him as "Papa Hat".
Cletus was ornery in the best way, with a somewhat twisted sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. He loved to laugh, loved to make others laugh, and was rarely seen without a smile. Above all, he dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgia, in 2009; his parents; and his sister, Joette Keho.
Cletus is survived by his sons, Mark Adams and wife Eve, and Steven Adams, all of Sand Springs; grandchildren, Megan Delay and husband Justin of Bixby, Cale Adams and wife Hannah of Jenks, and Allyson Cordell of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Blakely, Paisley, and Brecken Delay, Georgia, Miller, and Bennett Adams; sister, Linda Kaye Gloyd of Sand Springs; and brother, Gary Kent Adams of Sand Springs.
Cletus Ray "Teed" Adams—Papa to his grandchildren and Papa Hat to his great-grandchildren—will be remembered for his warm heart, quick wit, competitive spirit, and the deep love he had for his family. His smile, laughter, and larger-than-life presence will be missed more than words can say.
