Colten was surrounded by family who loved him deeply and remained an important part of his life.

Colten Yates Ash, affectionately known simply as Colten, departed this life on August 2, 2026, at the age of 33. He was born on May 26, 1993, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Michael Aaron Ash and Shelly Denise Yates.

Colten’s name carried a special meaning from the very beginning. His beloved Nanna Ash chose the name Colten, while Yates was given in honor of his maternal grandfather. From those early days, Colten was surrounded by family who loved him deeply and remained an important part of his life.

Colten graduated from McLoud High School in 2012, where he lettered in soccer. Soccer was more than simply a sport to Colten—it was something he truly loved. He continued playing at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma, attending on a soccer scholarship and earning a starting position his freshman year. He later attended Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma, and went on to earn multiple certifications in Information Technology. His knowledge and talent led him to a career as a Network Administrator.

While Colten was accomplished in his education and career, those who knew him best will remember him for the things that made him uniquely Colten. He had a genuine passion for soccer, whether he was playing it himself or cheering on his favorite teams. He was especially enthralled by the FIFA World Cup and could become completely immersed in the excitement of the games. He enjoyed mountain biking, online gaming, and Formula One racing. And perhaps one of his greatest sources of happiness was spending time playing with his dog, Sylvie, who was a very special part of his life.

“

His adventurous spirit and the joy he found in spending time with Sylvie are all pieces of the legacy he leaves behind.

Colten will be remembered as a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. His family was an important part of who he was, and he shared special relationships that extended well beyond traditional family titles.

He is survived by his father, Michael Aaron Ash of San Antonio, Texas; his stepmother, Dara Lyn Brooks of San Antonio, Texas; his mother, Shelly Denise Yates of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his sister, Nicole Sigler of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his stepsiblings, Leah Tate, Bradley Siemens, and Brittany Chrisman.

He is also survived by his grandparents, J.C. and Marilyn Ash of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and his grandfather, Doyle Yates of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his uncle, James Ash of Oologah, Oklahoma; and cousins: Steven and Alicia Hodges and Cole and Heather Brewster, whom Colten considered more like brothers and sisters.

He held an especially close place in his heart for his younger cousins: Kylee, Steven, Aisley, Kimber, Sofia, and Kinsley, whom he considered his nieces and nephews. He also cherished his cousins, Blaine and Susan Rose, whom he considered an aunt and uncle, along with their children, Patrick and Laura, of Ada, Oklahoma.

Colten’s life was far too short, but the memories he created will remain with the many people who loved him. His love of soccer, his enthusiasm for the things that captured his interest, his dedication to his career, his adventurous spirit, and the joy he found in spending time with Sylvie are all pieces of the legacy he leaves behind.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer here to share in the games, races, adventures, and everyday moments he enjoyed so much, the love his family has for Colten will remain always.
