Derek Roy
Cope
Feb 25, 1968 — Sep 13, 2024
Sand Springs
Derek Roy Cope, age 56, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024. Born on February 25, 1968, in Wichita, Kansas, Derek moved with his family to Oklahoma in 1972, where he later graduated from Cleveland High School.
Derek was a man of many passions. He loved sports, especially football, hockey, and baseball, and he was a die-hard fan of all things Pittsburgh. WDerek's enthusiasm was unmatched. His love for vehicles, particularly square-body Chevys and Blazers, led him to build an impressive collection. One of his greatest joys, however, was competing in motorcycle trials, where his skill earned him several trophies.
Music played a significant role in Derek's life. His eclectic taste spanned from the Grateful Dead to Black Sabbath and all things British bands. Despite describing himself as having a dry sense of humor, Derek had a talent for making others laugh, finding joy in bringing humor into his interactions.
Though not overly social by nature, Derek cherished his family, friends, and his church community. He took pride in his career as a lead man electrician, always living by his personal motto, "I will do it faster and better than anyone else." His work ethic and dedication were evident in everything he did.
Derek is survived by his loving wife, Angela Cope; his mother, Katie Anna Cope; his brothers, Cary Cope and wife Pam, and Rich Cope and wife Kimberly; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service to honor Derek's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Woodland Cemetery in Sand Springs. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Derek will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
