The son of Marvin James "Bob" Parks and Wellene Lucille (Edwards) Parks was born December 1, 1933, in Atoka. His father was a dry cleaner and moved the family frequently looking for greener pastures. Don attended high school in Prosser, Washington, and left his senior year to help his father at their family business. Don and his high school sweetheart, Wilsie Christina "Chris" Petersen were married in Prosser, WA in 1954.  They moved to Sand Springs in 1955 with their daughter, Robin. Don and his father went into business together and opened the original Spot Shop Cleaners on Main Street, until they sold the business in 1962. Don sold dry cleaning equipment for a few years until he and Chris later opened Don's Cleaners next to the Sand Springs Post Office. He was proud to work alongside and carry on a third-generation trade and family-owned business with his son, Scott.  He was known around town as "The Grime Fighter". It was a very successful business from the time they opened in September 1971, until they closed the business in 2012.

In his spare time, Don enjoyed going to the horse races, having an occasional beer or two, playing poker and loved to tell stories. Each story was never retold the same, and always embellished a little bit more each time. Don was a member of the Sand Springs Masonic Lodge #475 for over 50 years, a 32nd degree Mason, and was a member of AKDAR Shrine. Don loved to host parties, loved to eat, and most of all, enjoyed spending time with family. He also enjoyed fishing, watching football on television especially when OU and Dallas Cowboys played, Don and Chris spent hours a day, sitting around the kitchen table at the picture window, watching the birds, and just talking. He was quiet but had a big personality. He always said he learned more by listening. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Two great granddaughters, Morgan and Victoria; and one nephew, Steven VanDalsem.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Chris of the home; children: Robin Porter and husband, Mike, and Scott Parks and wife, Tammy all of Sand Springs; sister, Barbara Langbakk and husband, Leif of Tulsa; grandchildren: Angela Amey and husband, Ryan, and Michael Porter and wife, Kendl all of Collinsville; and great-grandchildren: Rylee, Kailyn, Jayden, Madilyn, Brynlee, Jaxson, Porter, Jase, and Beau; nephew, David VanDalsem and wife, Sarah of Tulsa; numerous nieces and nephews in Washington state, and numerous friends.
