Doris Jean
Hampton
Jun 30, 1931 — May 16, 2026
Sand Springs
Doris Jean Hampton passed peacefully from this life on May 16, 2026, at the age of 94.
Affectionately known to all as "Jean", she was born on June 30, 1931, in Spring Valley, Illinois, to Henry (Cackle) and Una (Smith) Thurlo. Jean lived a life defined by compassion, quiet strength, unwavering faithfulness, and deep devotion to her family.
Jean dedicated many years of service to The Sand Springs Home, where she worked as a house parent and childcare worker for 14 years. Her kindness, patience, and nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on countless children and families through the years. In recognition of her remarkable dedication, she was honored as Oklahoma Certified Child Care Worker of the Year in 1994. Those who knew Jean admired her tireless work ethic, gentle nature, and the grace with which she carried herself through every season of life. She was a woman who rarely complained and instead chose to serve others with humility and love.
Outside of her work, Jean found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved reading, bird watching, flower gardening and took special delight in caring for her hens and chicks. Above all else, however, she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings, laughter, and treasured memories with those she loved most brought her the greatest happiness.
Jean is survived by her children: Michael Wayne Hampton and wife Carol; Pamela Jean Ryan and husband Sean; Deborah Lynn Broussard and husband Randy; and Patricia Ann Major. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Faye Stevens and husband Tony.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Michael Dale Hampton, Jack Daniel Hampton, Kevin Joseph Ryan, Sarah Siobhan Ryan, Matthew Alan Major, Ryan Andrew Major, and Lyndsey Jean Broussard; and nephew Johnny Michael Stevens.
Her memory will also be lovingly carried on by her great-grandchildren: Ashley Morita, Mikah Hampton, Maddyx Hampton, Wyatt Hampton, Lena Hampton, Will Hampton, Lyza Hampton, Margo Mae Ryan, Penelope Jean Ryan, Jett Major, Roman Major. Great great-grandchildren: Hensleigh Morita, and Lennox Morita.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Henry (Cackle) and Una Thurlo; her son Richard Dale Hampton; her daughters Linda Faye Hampton and Ruth Ann Hampton; and her brother, Henry Wayne Thurlo.
Jean's life was a beautiful example of kindness, perseverance, and unconditional love. Her warmth touched many lives, and her legacy will continue through the family she adored and the many people she cared for throughout her lifetime. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Oklahoma Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association in Jean's memory.
