Doris June
Vantrease
Apr 7, 1933 — Feb 22, 2024
Sand Springs
Doris June Vantrease entered her heavenly home on Thursday, February 22, 2024. She was 90 years old. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Born on April 7, 1933, in Sand Springs, Doris was the only child of Ernest Harvel and Ova Evelyn (Bowen) Harvel. Doris was raised by her mother and grandmother, Sarah Bowen, during the Great Depression. She loved to talk about life growing up with her loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Especially her cousin, Anna Jo. They were lifelong friends, just like sisters. Anna Jo lived across the street for many years. Their adventures together were very special to her. She relied on Anna Jo all her life.
Doris grew up in Sand Springs and graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1951. Doris was a devoted homemaker and a beloved wife to her late husband, Robert Merle "Bob" Vantrease. The couple was married on October 5, 1956, at Calvary Baptist Church in Sand Springs. They were devoted to each other in every adventure of their lives together.
In their early years of marriage, they lived in various towns. Bob worked as a Boiler maker and she had a newborn baby and a bird dog to keep her busy. Bob insisted that his hunting dog went with them wherever they lived.
Doris would also play a vital role in their business, Vantrease Plumbing, which they started around 1976 and retired from in 1995. She was a dedicated partner, answering phones, preparing breakfast and lunch for her husband, and assisting with any tasks that needed to be done. After the kids were grown, Doris and Bob traveled, often enjoying horse races, or going to farm auctions to purchase equipment for their pecan trees. Bob passed away on August 6, 2021, and Doris was also preceded in death by her parents.
Doris is survived by her children: Burle Lee Vantrease, Alice Anna Shipman, Earl Wayne Vantrease and wife, Deanna, and Michael Dean Vantrease. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jon Wade Vantrease and wife, Laura, Jamie Clark and husband, Ryan, Alicia Gomez, Alan Shipman and wife, Brooke, Curtis Shipman, Cory Vantrease and wife, Harlie, Amy Tyler and husband, Jake, and Megan Rehorn; her cousin, Anna Jo Poitevent; as well as 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Doris supported each of her children by her involvement in their education and various activities. She was always volunteering her time. She served as a Girl Scout assistant, baseball and wrestling mom, and volunteering with the PTA. She loved organizing fundraisers, and luncheons for the teachers. She was always looking for ways to get involved at school and church. She created many wonderful memories with each of these activities. She would tell many stories about these events throughout her life, especially toward the end.
In her free time, Doris enjoyed sewing, hand crafts, ceramics, and tending to her flowers. She was a loving and supportive grandmother, raising two of her grandchildren. All of her grandchildren were the love of her life. She created many wonderful memories with them. Jamie was the first grandchild to come along. Grandma took her to Braum's every day after school. She loved to spoil every one of her grandchildren! Grandma was a wonderful cook and always had something fun to do with them. They all remember the bon fires roasting hot dogs, 4th of July parties and helping at their house whether it was digging in her flowers or picking up pecans. They all wanted to go hang out with Grandma and Grandpa.
Doris was known for her loving nature, her creativity, and her tireless work ethic. She was a member of Sand Springs Church of God and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, at the Mobley-Groesbeck Chapel with Manuel Parker officiating. The service may be viewed live at https://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/98297 . Doris will be laid to rest at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home 12-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.
