Dorothy Darlene Shindhelm went to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the age of 96. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

A memorial service celebrating Dorothy's life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, December 3, at the University Village Chapel with Chaplain Merle Newton officiating.

Dorothy was born on August 23, 1926, in Fairport, Kansas, to Lesley "Guy" Manning and Lulu Marie (Reilly) Manning. In May 1944, she graduated as salutatorian from Gorham High School in Gorham, Kansas. Dorothy was a star basketball player, played clarinet in the band, and accompanied choir members on the piano. She was awarded a scholarship to secretarial school, but decided to stay close to her parents while her brother was overseas at war.

Dorothy went on a blind date through friends with a young man, Robert Bryan Shindhelm. They quickly remembered previously meeting each other when she worked at the local grocery store and he was repairing a clock. Dorothy and Robert were united in marriage on June 30, 1946, in Russell, KS, at the First United Methodist Church. They made their home in several communities that included Guymon, Phillipsburg, KS, Great Bend and Pawhuska. In his early 40's Robert attended school, and Dorothy supported the family as a production oil clerk for Sunray DX Oil Company. Robert became a petroleum engineer. They then moved to El Dorado, AR, Calgary Alberta, Canada, Denver, CO, Santa Barbara, CA, and Malta. They also traveled extensively in the states and Europe.

Dorothy and Robert were blessed with two daughters, Pamela and Desiree. She was devoted to her family and active in the girls school serving on the PTA, volunteering to make costumes for the school play, and serving as a brownie leader. Anywhere she was needed she was there. She continued to help at the schools with her grandchildren, and decorating her daughter, Pam's, classroom. Some of her daughter's favorite memories are singing along with their mother as she played the latest hits on the piano. She was an excellent cook, talented seamstress, enjoyed reading, working embroidery, and needlepoint. She will be dearly missed.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2019; her parents; her brother, Darrell Dean Manning; and son-in-law, Terry Dannar.

Survivors include her daughters: Pamela Dannar of Sand Springs, and Desiree Lynn of Tulsa; grandchildren: Ryan Dannar of Tulsa, Derek Dannar of Sand Springs, and Juliana Jumper and husband, Michael of Kansas City, MO; and great-grandchildren: Tristan, Ash, and Ember Dannar.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2448 E. 81st St., Ste. 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137, or www.alz.org.
