Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs, honoring Esther's final wishes for no services.
Esther was born on July 24, 1960, at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, to her parents John "Jack" M. Darby and Kathryn Joan (Cox) Darby. Driven by her passion for beauty, Esther pursued a career in cosmetology, becoming a licensed professional. However, recognizing the need for a stable livelihood, she transitioned to caring for residents at Hissom Memorial Center.
In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Esther seized the opportunity to attend nursing school when offered tuition support at the time of Hissom Memorial Center's closure. Balancing the responsibilities of motherhood, she earned her LPN degree while raising her daughter, Sara Eden Darby. Esther later achieved her bachelor's degree in nursing, ascending to the rank of a registered nurse.
Her professional journey led her through various roles, including a five-year tenure as the overseer of a group home, where she took on the responsibility of caring for two individuals. Esther's dedication to her craft continued as she spent 15 years at St. Francis Hospital before embarking on a brief but impactful stint as a traveling nurse. Her most recent position was in administration at Hillcrest Hospital, where she contributed her skills to the registry department. Esther's love for her job and camaraderie with her colleagues were evident throughout her fulfilling career.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Esther had a profound love for animals, a passion that manifested in her ownership of several dogs. Her generosity extended to various animal charities, a testament to her caring and compassionate nature. Esther's artistic flair shone brightly as she created beautiful mosaics showcased at local exhibitions. Additionally, she was commissioned to decorate an entry desk for a local business, showcasing her creativity and talent. In recent times, Esther delved into the art of quilling, showcasing her ever-expanding artistic skills.
Esther was remembered as an intelligent, quick-witted individual with a sharp sense of humor and an arsenal of great one-liners. Her tenacity and strong-willed nature were admired by those who knew her best. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sara Eden Darby, and her brothers, John A. Darby and Fred R. Darby.
Esther Marie Darby's legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and creativity. She will be dearly missed by family, friends, and colleagues alike. May she rest in eternal peace.
