The son of Fred Pleasant Blevins and Ollie Mae (Atterberry) Blevins was born March 24, 1935, in Grove, Oklahoma. Fred attended small country schools in Delaware County until the eighth grade. He attended half of his freshman year before his father was injured and Fred went to work to support the family by joining a cousin in Wisconsin to work on construction of a pipeline. Fred was a talented welder and spent his career working on the pipelines, water towers, and pipe fabrication. Fred worked on, what was the largest earthen dam in the world at that time, the Oahe Dam, near Pierre, South Dakota; and was present at the dedication by President John F. Kennedy in August, 1962. Fred wanted a permanent home to raise his boys and the family moved to Tulsa. He went to work initially for Flint Steel, and retired from Midwest Industries.
On April 17, 1954, Fred married the love of his life, Delores June Crosby, at her parents' home. They were blessed with five boys who participated in various athletics. Fred coached Little League baseball until the boys were in high school; serving a period of time as Little League Commissioner. He loved to watch all sports, but when he wasn't cheering on his boys and grandchildren he was cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Oklahoma Sooners.
Fred was a strong, outgoing man who worked hard for what he had. He loved to tell stories, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He grew a large garden each year, and enjoyed sharing the bounty from those gardens with friends, neighbors, and church members. He was a changed man after he was saved and dedicated his life to Jesus Christ in 2005 and became a member of Southwest Church of the Nazarene where he served diligently.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Doice and Darrell Blevins; and infant brother, Glen Dale Blevins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Delores of the home; sons: Freddie Bruce Blevins and wife, Dena of Tulsa, Neal Blevins and wife, Lita of Sand Springs, Kenneth Earl Blevins and wife, JoAnn of Sand Springs, Gary Blevins and wife, Cindy of Sand Springs, and Charles Blevins and wife, Leah of Sapulpa; grandchildren: Heather Blevins, Bryan Blevins, Jeremy Blevins, Jeffrey Blevins, Morgan Caywood, Kenneth D. "Kenny Doice" Blevins, Hunter Blevins, Stormi Blevins, Chelsea Gore, Chase Blevins, Carson Blevins, Josh Tremble, and Elizabeth Melton; many great-grandchildren; brothers: Earl Blevins and wife, Marie, Johnny "Smokey" Blevins and wife, Wanda, and Gaylord Blevins and wife, Minnie; sister, Anita Lowry; and sister-in-law, Zella Blevins.
