Frederick David Shawger, 76, of Sand Springs went to his heavenly reward on Monday January 24, 2022 from Tulsa, with his family at his bedside.

Fred's services have been entrusted to Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service in Sand Springs.

He was a man of many talents, serving as a teacher, coach, fireman, fire chief, fire marshall, building inspector and associate pastor at Glory Refuge Church, serving Sand Springs and the surrounding area.

Fred was born on November 23, 1945 in Tulsa to Fred A. Shawger and Edna (Ament) Shawger.  His father passed away when Fred was a young boy, and his mother remarried Marvin Miller, who raised Fred as his own.  Fred graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1964, and then graduated from Kansas University in 1969 with a B.A. in Education.  Fred married the love of his life, Francine Poulos in 1971 in Tulsa.  He began teaching history and coaching football and basketball, until joining the Sand Springs Fire Department in 1976.  Fred worked his way through the ranks from fireman to fire marshall and Chief, for over 17 years.  He then worked for the city as a Building Inspector until an on-the-job injury forced his early retirement.  The list of awards and acolades that Fred earned throughout his career are numerous. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, crossword puzzles and telling a good joke.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years,  Francine; daughters, Dawn Shawger McCord (Trey), Mindy Dale Dingle (Shawn); god-son, Tony Champagne; sister Helen Hulse and six grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Miller; step-father, Marvin Miller; and grandson, Stephen Shaffer.

A Celebration of the Life of Frederick David Shawger will be held at Lake Church on Friday January 28, 2022 beginning at 6:00 pm.
