George Robert
Dayer
Sep 7, 1938 — Jan 5, 2026
Sand Springs
George Robert Dayer entered his heavenly home on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the age of 87. A man of deep faith, gentle spirit, and quiet kindness, George leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, service, and family. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, January 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Rev. Leo Ahanotu officiating. Burial will follow the Mass at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery. Viewing will be held Sunday from 1–6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with family greeting friends from 5:30–6:30 p.m. A Rosary service will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Deacon Todd Slezak officiating.
George was born on September 7, 1938, in Conway, Arkansas, to Joseph Louis Dayer and Philomene Marie Dayer. He attended St. Joseph's High School, graduating in 1957. Following high school, George ventured to Virginia and later Texas, where he attended barber school and worked briefly as a barber.
While attending a wedding, George first laid eyes on the woman who would capture his heart, Loretta May Barbee. They later met again at his brother Joe's home, beginning a heartfelt courtship filled with handwritten letters. Their love story culminated in marriage on April 4, 1970, in Nowata. Together, George and Loretta made their home in Sand Springs, near George's brothers, building a life grounded in faith and family.
George retired from Bama Pie in 2004, but retirement never slowed him down. He was most at peace outdoors, tending to his beloved gardens filled with flowers and vegetables. An avid gardener, George lovingly cared for the flowers at church and at Bama Pie. One of his most cherished traditions was growing a small patch of cotton each year so his children and grandchildren could experience picking it themselves. He was especially proud of his tomatoes and delighted in sharing them generously with family and friends.
A dedicated and faithful Catholic, George was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He found fellowship and joy attending the widows' group and remained actively involved in church life for many years.
George was kind, sweet, and gentle, with a playful streak that some might call ornery. He enjoyed social gatherings, treasured time with his family, and eagerly anticipated the annual family reunion in Bull Shoals, Arkansas. He was also an avid swimmer, faithfully swimming at the Salvation Army nearly every day until about a year ago, often bringing his daughters and grandchildren along and passing on his love of the water.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta, in 2022; his parents; brothers Dan Dayer, Charles L. Dayer, Louis Dayer, Emil Dayer, John Alex Dayer, Henry Dayer, Eugene Dayer, Alphonse Dayer, Charles Dayer, Joseph Dayer, Leo Dayer, and Pete Dayer; and sisters Ann Jordan, Rose Daugherty, Henrietta Favre, Christine Lesniak, and Louise Velte.
He is survived by his daughters, Lucy Young and husband Wayne, and Diane Looney and husband Brian; grandchildren Hannah Dry and husband Jesse, Alyssa Looney, Sarah Looney, and John Looney; and brothers Johnny Dayer and wife Martha, and Adolph Dayer and wife Madeline.
George will be remembered for his faithful heart, generous hands, and the quiet love he gave so freely. His life was one well lived, and his memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew him.
