She loved Jesus with her whole heart. She showed Christ’s love to all.

Glenda May Martin Burgess was born July 12th, 1924, according to her birth certificate, but according to her mom, her birthday was July 16th, 1924, to Bunnyan and Audie Martin in Belleville, Arkansas. She went to dance and sing in heaven on July 14th, 2026, at the age of 102. Granny was very proud to be from Sand Springs, Oklahoma where she raised her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Glenda was happily married to Jack Burgess on October 19th, 1946, until his passing. In December 2002 she married Percy Chalk. She worked in the cotton mill, was a housewife and an amazing mom, she took care of the elderly in our community for a while, and helped care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Glenda left behind an amazing legacy for her family. She loved Jesus with her whole heart. She showed Christ’s love to all. She saw people with Christ eyes. She loved to teach people about Jesus as she taught in many ways such as Sunday School, VBS, Church choir, Christmas programs, church camps, and so many other ways. She was not afraid to share Jesus with anyone who would listen. The family loved to hear her sing about her savior and listen to her laugh. She was not afraid to go on adventures from traveling out of the country to the Holy Land and to Branson with family. She was always up to going. She loved sporting events including watching and going to OU, Sandites, and Owasso events. It was even better when her grandkids or great grandchildren were playing. She enjoyed pool time, shopping, and concerts with Aunt Jo and Janet. Everyone knew her as granny or grandma. That is how she introduced herself. You never left her house hungry because if she knew you were coming she was cooking her amazing food. One Christmas her family asked for her recipes so we can continue them.

Glenda is survived by her daughters Shirley Cole, Karen Swofford, Linda Phillips, Susie Bostick and Kathy Stephens. Her grandchildren Brad & Juile Burgess, Amber and Shawn Cowan, Brandi and Ty Wayman, Pamela and Anthony Keeney, Christy and Kevin Warne, Jennifer Greenburg, Ashley Wolf, Perry Jr and Eugina Phillips, Chris and Regina Phillips, Larry Jr and Heather Bostick, Angela and Tim Nelson, Stephen and Brandi Bostick, Jason & Sabrina Tyer, Shavonna and Kevin Rains, and Brett Tyer plus multiple great grand children and great great grandchildren. She was greeted in heaven by her parents, husbands Jack Burgess and Percy Chalk, daughters Sylvia and Pamela, and granddaughter Natausha Kifer plus her siblings and other family members.

Her CELEBRATION of LIFE will be held Monday at 2pm at Hillspring Church. Viewing will be at Mobley-Groesbeck Sunday from 2-4pm.
