Pastor Gus Edgar Talburt entered his heavenly home on Saturday, February 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, music, and kindness. Gus was born on August 13, 1933, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Albin Newton Talburt and Ruby Susan Clercy (Fulbright) Talburt. He grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Central High School in 1951.

Music was an integral part of Gus' life. Since his teenage years, he played the guitar and sang, and enjoyed learning to play many instruments, including the mandolin, banjo, and especially the fiddle. His talent and passion for music earned him a place in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. If you were around Gus for even five minutes, he would sing to you and share his faith. His love for God was evident in every aspect of his life.

Gus attended Rhema Bible School, earning his Ministerial Degree in 1993. His ordination was a momentous occasion, marking his dedication to serving the Lord. In July 1983, he followed God's calling and founded Faith Bible Church, using funds he had originally saved to fulfill his dream of buying a touring bus for his music. His mission was always to point people to God.

Beyond ministry and music, Gus had an undeniable love for classic cars. A natural-born mechanic, he could identify the year and make of any vehicle just by looking at its front fender. If a car was missing a seat, he would improvise with a five-gallon bucket. He was a self-proclaimed "jack of all trades and master of none," and he could fix anything. He worked as a postman before becoming an airplane mechanic for McDonnell-Douglas, later retiring and taking on a new role as a bus driver for Tulsa Public Schools, where he worked for 16 years—driving until the age of 87.

Gus met the love of his life, Patricia Ann "Pat" Barrett, at a dance where he was performing. They met in August and were married on November 18, 1960, in Miami, Oklahoma. They first made their home in Hulbert before settling in Tulsa, where they raised their family. Gus was an entrepreneur at heart, starting Talburt and Sons, a successful cleaning business, and later working alongside his son Steven at Talburt's Wood Floors.

Always busy, always smiling, always whistling—Gus was known for his generosity and warm spirit. He welcomed many people into his home for meals, would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, and never met a stranger. He loved to joke and brought joy to those around him. His greatest love, however, was for God, and he dedicated his life to sharing that love with others.

Gus is preceded in death by his daughters, Debbie Pogue and Peggy Nail; his parents; and his sister, Madge Dill. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Pat; his children: Diana James of Collinsville, Teresa Wilkins of Jenks, Becky Gregory and husband Franky of Kiefer, Donna Carnes and husband Johnny of Tulsa, and Steven Talburt and wife Christina of Skiatook. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom adored him, along with many extended family members.

A funeral service celebrating Gus' life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 7, at Faith Bible Church in Tulsa. He will be laid to rest at Woodland Memorial Park. Viewing will take place at the funeral home from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, with family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Bible Church, 4920 W. Easton, Tulsa, OK 74127.

Gus lived a life of faith, music, and service, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
