Harriet Ann Christmas was born September 15th, 1936, in a small farmhouse northwest of Pond Creek, Oklahoma to Harry Lloyd Christmas and Emma Florence (Oliver) Christmas. The family moved to Enid shortly afterwards and remained in Enid where she attended school until the family moved to Drummond, Oklahoma, as she and her brother, Alfred, were starting high school.  Her dad wanted to move the family out of the big city so his children could experience the country way of life.  The family bought and ran a small country store and gas station south of Drummond  known around the area as "Christmas Corner".  It was a small rural store where everyone knew each other. Harriet played basketball for the Drummond Bulldogs throughout her senior high school years.  She graduated in 1954 and was selected as Salutatorian of her graduating class of 7 seniors.

Shortly after graduating, Harriet married Joe Haley and would later have 2 children together. Harriet moved to Sand Springs in 1970 and worked various jobs in the food industry ranging from meat wrapper to restaurant management until moving back to Enid in 1979 after her youngest son graduated high school so that she could spend time with her parents with the time that they had left. She worked at Vance Air Force Base as 1st Cook and later transferred to a Baker position until she retired in 1996.  She was well respected at her job and was known for herself taught skill of culinary art where she often made displays of palm trees, roses, and various other items out of vegetables.  Her displays were admired by all who passed through the Dining Hall and was known to get the attention of the Base Commander.

After retiring, she moved back to Sand Springs in 1997 to be with her family and remained there for the rest of her life. Her favorite hobbies besides spending time with family included sewing, gardening, baking, crossword puzzles, reading anything by John Grisham, and spending time with her dogs.

Her favorite activities included watching OU Sooner Football games each Saturday and watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events.  Friday Night High School Football games were a highlight of hers where she could watch her grandson play football.  The family doesn't recall a single game that she missed including out of town games and most practices.

She enjoyed music, dancing, cooking, and any activity that included her family although her dogs came in at a close second.  Her favorite dogs were Shih-Tzu's and she cared for four of them after raising several mixed breeds.  Everyone knew of her love for her dogs and their priority.  She even made matching outfits with her sewing skills.

Although she didn't attend church on a regular basis, she claimed the Baptist faith and she had strong spiritual convictions.  Harriet was a strong country girl with simple wants.  She had strong work ethics and lived within her means.  She lived honorably and never ever told a lie. She loved everyone and enjoyed helping in any way she could.  She didn't try to impress anyone and could care less if anyone disapproved of her.  Although on a limited income, she always made sure all of the children and grandchildren had a gift on birthdays and Christmas and some of the best gifts were the ones she handmade.

She was very proud of the Christmas name and the fact that her grandfather, Alfred Christmas, made the Cherokee Strip land run and homesteaded 3 miles south of Pond Creek in 1893.  His name is proudly displayed on a monument in Medford Oklahoma at the town square along with other early settlers.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Emma Christmas of Enid; her father, Harry Christmas of Enid; her brother, Alfred O. Christmas; and her eldest son, Rex Doyle Haley of Enid.

She is survived by her youngest son, Wade Alan Haley of Sand Springs; grandchildren: Christi Lynn Haley of Hochatown, Oklahoma, Angela Dawn Haley of Sand Springs, and Breanna Lane Haley Sauer of Sand Springs; great-grandchildren: Jerret, Jacob, Lyndsay, Ashley, Kelsey, Dalton, Asher, and Blakely; great-great-grandchildren: Skylar, Gracelynn, Novalynn, Brooklyn, and Brian;  bonus grandchildren, Kimberly Wayland of Sapulpa, Angie Ray of Broken Arrow, and Sandy Avalos of Sapulpa; nieces and nephew, Jacque Christmas, Robert Christmas and Christina Olsen, all of Enid; and her precious dog and best friend, Maxie.
