Imogene
Crittenden
Aug 24, 1930 — Dec 27, 2021
Sapulpa
Helen Imogene Crittenden departed this life on Monday morning, December 27, 2021, at her son's home at the age of 91. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m., December 30, at Woodland Memorial Park with Pastor Doyle Baker officiating. Visitation will be held 12-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
The daughter of William Benjamin Wilkerson and Martha Mae (Butts) Wilkerson was born August 24, 1930, in the small town of Welty. Her dad was a farmer and she spent time as a child in the communities of Welty and Bristow. On October 27, 1948, Imogene married George "Curtis" Wilburn in Bristow, and they made their home in Tulsa. Curt became ill and stayed home with their sons, while Imogene went to work. She worked a short while as a waitress, before going to work at St. John Hospital as a dietician. Curt passed away at a young age, and Imogene worked hard and raised her sons with the help of her family. She worked at St. John for 20 years until she injured her back. Imogene later went to work caring for children at Blossom Day Care. She later married Ray Compton and they would later separate. She found love again with Sampson "Sam" Crittenden, and they were married in 1980 at True Baptist Church in Sand Springs.
Imogene enjoyed fishing, and crocheted many afghans and potholders that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will treasure. She looked forward to watching "The Lone Ranger" and "Perry Mason" each day, and would let you know if you made her miss an episode. If the show wasn't on she would say, "Perry took the day off today".
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Curt and Sam; her son, Billy Joe Wilburn; infant son, Barry Roger Wilburn; siblings: Ovel Wilkerson, Valice Wilkerson, Emmett Wilkerson, Albert Wilkerson, Willie Lee Wilkerson, Dora Scott, Haskel Wilkerson, Dorothy Woollesy, Henry Wilkerson, Carl Wilkerson, Vivian Wilkerson, Odis Wilkerson, David Wilkerson, and Junior Wilkerson; and great-grandson, Baby Billy.
Survivors include her son, Curtis "Wayne" Wilburn and wife, Sherrie of Sapulpa; daughter-in-law, Susan Wilburn of Tulsa; brother, Jimmie Don Wilkerson of Depew; grandchildren: Misty Butler and husband, Ben, Clifton Ray Wilburn and wife, Jammie, Stacy Napier and husband, Billy, Joline Brooks and husband, Dan, and Charlene Davenport and husband, Buddy; great-grandchildren: Amy, Richard, Emily, Jordan, Makayla, Alabama, Victoria, Cherokee, Zack, Devin, and Luna; and 11 great-grandchildren.
