Jim Carey entered into God's care on August 10, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by the love of family.  Jim was born to Maybell and James Howard Carey, Jr., on January 12, 1956, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He loved baseball and played throughout his childhood. In 1970, the family moved to London, England, where they stayed until 1973. During their time in England, Jim and his father played for the Sutton Braves Baseball Club. Following the family's return to Bartlesville, Jim attended Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he met his first love, Lillian Ruth Banfield. They married in 1976 and lived in Tulsa and Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Jim tragically lost Ruth on May 16, 1985. Jim later met Susan Fanning and her two boys, Ryan and Josh. They married on July 3, 1987. Their family was complete when Jeremy was born. The Careys spent plenty of time at the ballpark, whether it was Jim coaching his three boys, playing softball with Susan, or catching a Cardinals' baseball game.

Jim loved and enjoyed many things in life. He could sit and talk all things Monty Python and Star Trek, but you would get a grunt and a head shake if you mentioned Star Wars. Music was a part of Jim on a deeper level. He could spend hours talking about the meaning of Pink Floyd's music, or his memories of listening to George Harrison and Hank Williams, Jr. Jim also loved trivia and had a Rolodex-like mind full of facts, dates, and stories. He would spend time on the phone with his sister Nancy, testing her trivia knowledge. Word puzzles were another source of entertainment for Jim, as evidenced by how worn his crossword dictionary was.  Before he began to slow down with age, Jim loved the outdoors, spending time clearing the land around his house, and feeding the birds and squirrels. He even built a village for gnomes and other character toys, coming up with grand stories about the activities of villagers. We affectionately dubbed the village Gnomeville. He was resourceful in what he used to build each section of the village, from sticks and stones, to found items like metal straps to bottle caps, the sky couldn't even limit Jim's creativity. Jim also enjoyed making gifts for those he loved. His last project was creating trees from the plethora of sticks and rocks found at the house, a sort of tree of life to share with us all.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents Maybell and James, wives Ruth and Susan, father-in-law James, sister-in-law Jackie, brother-in-law Leon, and nephew Charlie. Jim is survived by sons Ryan Carey, Josh Carey, and Jeremy (Clary) Carey. He was Papa Jim to Alana, Brice, Heather, Jake, and Liam. Jim was a much-loved uncle to Jake Kotras, Caroline (Sophia) Kotras, Chris Fanning, and Jackie Fanning. He was brother to Nancy Carey, and son-in-law to Helen Lancaster. He was family to so many more, the list would be endless.

Jim's love, presence, and avid storytelling will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through all those whose lives he touched.

The family would like to thank the Cramer family for being extended family to Jim and keeping a watchful eye over him through the years. Thank you to the staff at St. John's for the care and compassion over the last few months.
