Jerry Don Helt, 76, of Sand Springs, passed away on Tuesday April 5, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Services for Jerry are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

Jerry was born on October 22, 1945 in Sand Springs to John E. and Pearl Earnesttine (Mater) Helt.  He was educated in Sand Springs Schools, prior to joining the US Army on March 4, 1964. He was an Honor Graduate from the Signal School in Germany and spent a tour of duty in Vietnam earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  Jerry married Janice Elaine Williams on February 29, 1968 in Tulsa, making their home in Sand Springs.  He worked as a welder for NATCO, serving as a union representative and Local United Steel Workers Vice President, until they closed the plant.  Jerry and Janice owned a detail shop, before he returned to Tulsa Junior College and obtained an Associate Degree in Computer maintenance.

Jerry was very active in the Sand Springs American Legion Billie A. Hall Post 17, enjoyed music, especially the Blues and Motown, fishing, bowling but loved spending time with his family and his many friends, whom he made so easily.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janice; son Chris Helt; daughter, Theresa Colman (Benny); four grandchildren Kala Allbritton (CJ), Jacqueline Helt, Zane Coleman and Zeke Coleman; great grandson, Marshal Allbritton; brother-in-law, Bill Williams and loving niece Karen Ringgold (Dwight); and several other nieces, nephews and relatives.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl Helt; three brothers, Troy Thomas Helt, William Danny Helt, James C. Helt, David Helt; two sisters, JoAnn Gasaway, Alma Lee Long and sister-in-law, Betty Jo (Golden) Helt.

Visitation will be held at Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service on Thursday April 7, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with funeral services held on Friday April 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Olivet Baptist Church, Tulsa, OK.
