Johnny "John" Robert Lee Short,85, of Sand Springs, passed away at St. John hospital on Thursday afternoon, May 18, 2023.  Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

John was born in Texarkana, TX on June 2, 1937, to Rev Robert Lee and Ota (Berry) Short.  After graduating high school at Charles Page High in Sand Springs John joined the Navy where he made a lifetime of memories.

John married childhood friend and love of his life Myrtle "Mert" Faye Crumbo on August 1, 1956, at the Church of God in Sand Springs. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1993.

John was a welder at National Tank and then went on to be an inspector at different oil and gas companies until retirement.  He had a love for camping, boating, water skiing, and bowling.  He won many awards and trophies in bowling tournaments.  His first job was setting up bowling pins at Bowlero bowling alley in Sand Springs in his early teen years.  John taught his children and grandchildren to water ski on many adventurous family camping trips to Keystone Lake.

Survivors include daughter, Linda Carpenter and son Robert Lee "Bob" Short; brothers Jim and Andrew Peter Short; sister, Esther Mary Elizabeth Allen; 3 grandchildren, John Enno, Jeremy Enno, Jennifer Henshaw; 7 great grandchildren, Makenzie, Dylan, Landen, Jordan, Journee Enno; Jaxson, Jett Henshaw and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

John was preceded in death also by his son Richard "Ricky" Wayne Short; brothers, James Weldon Bandy, Dan Hancock; sister Jane Nadine Glenn.
