Kathryn Sykes Hopper, 79, of Sand Springs went to be with the angels and the rest of her family in heaven, on Saturday March 5, 2022.

Kathryn's services are in the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service, Sand Springs.

Kathryn was born on August 24, 1942 to James and Elizabeth (Sykes) Barnes in Clarksville, Tennessee.  In 1945, she moved with her family and sister Frances to Kansas where her father opened a rock quarry.  Kathryn married Lavern Hopper on August 4, 1962 and they made their home in Park City, Kansas, where she worked as a nurse. They lived in Inman, KS, Winfield, KS, then settled in Arkansas City, KS where she drove a school bus for USD 470 for several years.  They move to Newton, KS, where Kathryn worked for 20 years for Dillon Grocery as a checker and then baker, where she loved decorating the cakes.  One of her favorite things in life was decorating cakes for her family on birthdays, and for special occasions such as weddings and just for laughs. You had to be careful with your wish for a cake, because that was what she would make.  She bought dozens and dozens of cake pans, to make those special cakes for her family.  Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Lavern.  She is survived by her son, Lynn Hopper and fiancé, Jodi Odell; sister, Frances Sweet; three grandchildren, Richard, Michelle and Sarah; 5 great grandchildren; 3 nieces and 3 nephews.

Visitation will be held at Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service, Thursday March 10, 2022 between 5 pm and 7 pm.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 10 a.m. and graveside services will be held at Moline Kansas Cemetery Friday afternoon at 3 pm.
