Larry E. Ryals, 76
Larry E. Ryals was born December 29, 1944 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, to Oscar and
Katherine (Battenfield) Ryals. Surrounded by his family, he went to be with his Lord and Savior
on December 8, 2021. Funeral Services are entrusted to the Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service.
After graduating from Charles Page High School in Sand Springs, Larry joined the Coast Guard
in 1964. He married Linda Sue (Whittenburg) in 1967, and they remained devoted to each other
for 54 years. Larry, Linda and their three children moved throughout the country during his 22
years of Coast Guard service, including stations in Tennessee, Maryland, Puerto Rico,
Michigan, California and Texas. His family is especially proud of his assignments on the
Presidential yacht, USS Sequoia, and security detail in the L.A. harbor during the 1984
Olympics. When he retired in 1989, they returned to Sand Springs, where over the years Larry
worked as a deputy sheriff, machinist, and security officer.
An avid outdoorsman, Larry loved to be in the woods or on the water, hunting, fishing or just
enjoying a cup of coffee and the sunset. He particularly enjoyed deer hunting. Regardless of
season - bow, muzzleloader or rifle - Larry was out in the deer woods for them all.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Katherine and Oscar and grandson Shane Ryals.
He is deeply loved and missed by his wife Linda, his children; Chad and Sheila (Williford) Ryals,
Becky and Tim Propst, Steven and Angela (Goff) Ryals, and grandchildren; Ariel, Shane, Jake,
Calista, Dillon, Colby, Logan, Renee, Neriah, and Karli, and countless extended family and
friends.
