Leona Vaughn
Firey
Oct 31, 1943 — Nov 11, 2024
Tulsa
Leona Fiery, previously Leona Veteto, and born Leona Vaughan Coleman passed on to be with Jesus in the early morning of November 11, 2024. Leona was born in Paden, Oklahoma to Wheeler and Muriel Coleman on October 31, 1943, and was the youngest of four children.
Leona moved across central and northern Oklahoma in her younger years as her dad, Wheeler, owned and operated several different market and service stations. Leona got married in 1963 to Forrest Veteto and settled down on Coyote Trail to raise her two sons, David and Cary Veteto.
Leona was a devoted home maker and had a heart of service and caregiving, serving in various forms at Rimrock Baptist Church and Brahma Acres Bible Church.
Years after the passing of Forrest, Leona allowed herself to be wooed by long-time friend and roofing contractor, David Firey, who lavished great affection upon her. Years into their marriage, Leona lost David to cancer, which devastated her, but she didn't lose the love of the Firey family.
Unfortunately, the last few years we saw the devastation of dementia and Altziemer's take the mind of our mother. We hold with peace the knowledge that Leona is now without heartache, disease, or pain. She is with Jesus.
Leona is survived by her two sons, David and Cary Veteto, three granddaughters, LaRissa Whitwell, Laney Veteto, and Dresden Kortness, two great-grandchildren, Noah and Josephine Whitwell, and two stepsons, Ben and Brandon Firey.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma. Arrangements are entrusted to Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Home.
