Lois Jean
Kirk
Jul 8, 1922 — Dec 13, 2021
Cleveland
Jean Kirk, 99, of Cleveland passed away on Monday December 13, 2021 at Cleveland Manor Nursing Home. The family has entrusted Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service with the services for Jean.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Osage Hills Christian Church.
Lois Jean was born July 8, 1922, in the Knox farmhouse south of Perkins, Oklahoma that her grandfather claimed in the land run. She grew up in a house that had no running water, indoor plumbing, or utilities. On her birth certificate, the doctor wrote, "Baby Knox, male," which led to some interesting moments when she applied for a passport. After graduating from Perkins High School, she married her sweetheart, Lloyd Kirk, on March 6, 1942. After a brief time together, Lloyd was inducted into the Army Air Force during World War 2. After giving birth to Wayne, she joined Lloyd in Florence, South Carolina, until he was discharged from the Army and took a job in Wellington, Kansas, where Jim was born.
Lloyd started a career in the oil business. The family lived in Shidler, Hominy, Webb City, rural Maysville, Nowata , Tulsa, and Wichita. In Wichita, Lloyd was Vice President and Manager of Employee Relations for Koch Industries. He traveled so much that the company furnished him with a Cessna 182. During the summer, he would go to company picnics around the central US and Canada, taking Jean. They even went to Europe together. They visited many places and met lots of interesting people. While in Wichita, her two grandchildren were born. Lloyd and Jean took every opportunity to keep them for a weekend and take them on vacations. Lloyd and Jean also started collecting antiques -- making many weekend trips in their Winnebago searching for bargains.
When Lloyd developed a heart condition, he took early retirement and they moved to Lake Keystone, built a home, and opened L&J Antiques, which evolved to Lloyd Kirk Equipment Company. Jean kept the books, did the payroll, and mastered Oklahoma's complicated sales taxes.
Jean was a devout Christian and was a past member of Highland Park Christian Church in Tulsa, Westlink Christian Church in Wichita, and a member of the Osage Hills Christian Church in Tulsa.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, relative, and friend. Everyone that knew her called her a very sweet lady. There is no doubt that she has touched many lives.
