Michael Joe
Goodmon
Sep 22, 1948 — Aug 10, 2024
Sand Springs
Michael Joe Goodmon, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed this earth on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the age of 75, at Hillcrest Medical Center. Michael was born on September 22, 1948, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, to Joe Neal Goodmon and Beldora B. Goodmon.
Raised in California, Michael entered the U.S. Army in 1965 in Fresno, CA, and served until 1968 at Ft. Gordon, GA, during the Vietnam War. After his honorable service, he began a career as a firefighter in California from 1969 to 1979, where he bravely faced danger and cheated death on more than one occasion—once during his time in Vietnam, a second time in an explosion in California, and a third time in a truck wreck in 2007 while hauling 35,000 gallons of acid for a refinery.
Michael's work life was as varied as it was impressive. In addition to his firefighting career, he worked as a truck driver for Dow Corporation and Groendyke Trucking, transporting chemicals across the country. He was known for his incredible work ethic and his dedication to doing things right.
In his personal life, Michael was a man of many talents and passions. He loved playing Scrabble and watching car and mechanic shows. A true handyman, he could often be found working outside or "piddling" in his garage. Michael was also an exceptional cook, known for his authentic Chinese dishes and famous chili. He took great pleasure in hosting family dinners, where his culinary skills and love for his family shone brightly. He was family-oriented, often hosting huge Fourth of July events, bringing joy and laughter to all who attended.
Michael was a man of contrasts—hilarious, goofy, and dorky, yet capable of being stern when it came to getting things done right. He had a heart for humor and a love for the ladies, but above all, he was driven by an unwavering sense of duty and responsibility.
Michael married the love of his life, Denise Robison, on August 25, 2015, at their home in Sand Springs, OK. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Denise; his children: Tillie Dutton, Joseph Goodmon, Laura Goodmon, and Jeremy Goodmon and his wife, Deedee; his sister, Deborah Aldridge, and her husband, Wilbur; and his cherished grandchildren: Tabby Goodmon, Cassie Kennedy and her husband, Nathan, Kirstie Goodmon, Robert Dutton, Skylar Goodmon, Michael Goodmon, Nicole Goodmon, Alexandria Goodmon, and Bailey Goodmon. Michael was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Trinity, Charly, Tatem, Garrett, Kysin, Zayne, Tsuki, Erin, Kellan, Araylia, Isla, and Harper. His beloved dogs, Zelda, Jimmy, and Georgie, held a special place in his heart.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, David and Judy Goodmon, and his daughter-in-law, Rebecca Goodmon.
A Celebration of Michael's Life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 31, at Michael and Denise's home, 813 W. 10th St., Sand Springs. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army. Michael was an avid Hawaiian shirt wearer. Please wear a Hawaiian shirt in his honor.
Michael Joe Goodmon's legacy is one of courage, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
