The son of Charles "Buster" Dunn and Rosemary (Singleton) Dunn was born on May 2, 1939, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, he worked for the Muskogee Kerr Glass Plant before joining the Navy. Upon his return from the Navy, he graduated from Northeastern College in Tahlequah and took some additional courses at OSU. Finishing with a a bachelor's degree and double master's degrees. Mike worked for YUBA in Tulsa, before joining the Sand Springs school system. He taught drafting at Charles Page High School and technology classes at Central Junior High which included woodworking.
Mike spearheaded a woodworking project for the Salvation Army in 1986. Over a nine-year period, his students made thousands of wooden toys to be given to the needy children at Christmas, which drew national attention. Good Morning America came to the school to broadcast a live interview with Mike and his students while they were making toys. They were impressed with the toys and the teaching of charity "child giving to child" lesson he was teaching his students. They were also impressed with the fact he started making the toys when a little girl came up to him and wrapped her arms around his leg and asked from a toy. Due to the GMA interview his wife, Neta, joined him in making requested wooden items which resulted in them being in various craft shows. In addition to woodworking, he loved to tie flies for his fly fishing and hunting.
After Mike retired in 1996, he worked on various jobs for YUBA, Hempfield, and JEM Engineering. Mike and Neta (Evans) Dunn were married 34 years. They frequented Branson often for a few years. Other trips they enjoyed were Hawaii, an Alaskan cruise, Niagara Falls, New England states, New York City, and Tennessee.
Mike was a member of Olivet Baptist Church and taught the Men's Sunday School class for a brief time.
