Patricia Jean Newberry, age 82, passed from this life on January 27, 2026
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 4th, 2026 at Kirk of the Hills Church in Tulsa.
Patricia was born on December 19, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina, to John and Theora Blair, and spent most of her life in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a place she proudly called home. She grew up in Tulsa and was part of the first graduating class of Nathan Hale High School in 1960.
On December 19, 1963, Patricia married her best friend and the love of her life, Don Newberry. Their marriage was one of deep devotion and partnership, and together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and love.
Patricia earned her nursing degree from St. John's School of Nursing and devoted nearly 50 years to caring for others as a registered nurse. She served as both a dialysis nurse and an orthopedic nurse, working at St. John's and St. Francis hospitals in Tulsa. Her compassion, work ethic, and dedication left a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues.
Music was one of Patricia's lifelong passions. An accomplished violinist, she studied music at the University of Tulsa and performed as third chair in the Baptist Symphony and second chair in the Tulsa Symphony. Her love of music was matched by her love of home and family life.
Patricia delighted in a wide range of hobbies. She raised chickens, loved and took great pride in her gardens filled with vegetables and flowers. She was a gifted quilter and seamstress and was well known for decorating extensively for every holiday, making her home a place of warmth and celebration.
A devoted mother, Patricia encouraged her children to read and filled their early years with stories from classic books such as Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan. She created lasting memories on family trips to Disneyland, often taking the children on Saturdays after working long night shifts the evening before. Her energy and dedication to her family were remarkable.
Patricia was famous for her Thanksgiving dinners and was especially known for her expertly cooked turkeys, roasts, and her beloved chocolate cake—meals that brought family and friends together year after year.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Theora Blair, and by her beloved husband, Don.
She is survived by her sons, Don Newberry Jr. and wife Christa, and Dan Newberry and wife Laura; daughters, Misty Basey and husband Larry, and Jinny Enkey and husband David; her brother, John Blair; sisters, Miriam Goodin, Carolyn Bonge, and Phylis Fields; her grandchildren: Austin Donoho, Kagen Donoho, Daniel Newberry, Heidi Davis, Seth Fry, Claire Newberry, Paige Newberry, Alex Newberry, Eva Newberry, William Enkey, David Andrew Enkey, Sparrow Enkey, Michael Enkey, Ivory Enkey, and Buddy James; and her great-grandchildren: Teddy Donoho, Vivian Donoho, Harrison Donoho and Wyatt Davis.
Patricia will be remembered for her tireless care for others, her love of music, her creativity, her generosity at the table, and the deep love she held for her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the traditions she lovingly built.
