Paulette was born on February 12, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Clifford Harvey Abel, Sr. and Evelyn (Ladd) Abel. She grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Webster High School. As a young woman, she began working at the Piccadilly Cafeteria in downtown Tulsa, where she met the love of her life, Verlyn J. Perry. Their story began simply but blossomed into a lifetime of love. They were united in marriage on October 15, 1966, at Kingdom Hall in Tulsa, and together they built a life centered on family, faith, and shared joy.
Paulette dedicated much of her professional life to serving others through her work with Tulsa Public Schools. She began at the service center and later found her home at McKinley Elementary School, where she worked faithfully for 18 years, retiring after more than two decades of service. She also worked for a time at PSO, but it was her role within the schools—surrounded by children—that truly brought her joy. She had a special love for young people and found happiness in their laughter and energy.
At home, Paulette was the heart of her family. She had a deep love for reading and was rarely without a book in her hands. She delighted in reading to her grandsons and sharing stories with them. She loved crossword puzzles, playing games—especially games—and spending time outdoors. Whether it was trips to the park, swimming, visits to the zoo, or outings to the botanical gardens, she made every moment special. She was an avid gardener who found great joy in growing vegetables and flowers, nurturing life with the same care she gave to her family.
Known affectionately as "Nana," Paulette was truly the best grandmother her grandsons could have asked for. She was playful, active, full of laughter, and always engaged in their lives. Her bright smile and joyful laugh were unforgettable—often the first things people noticed and the things they remembered most. She was sweet, patient, caring, and full of warmth, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A devoted Jehovah's Witness since the age of 12, Paulette's faith guided her life and gave her strength, purpose, and peace.
She is survived by her loving husband, Verlyn Perry; her daughter, Annette Pinkstaff and fiancé, John Welborn; her cherished grandsons, Benjamin, William, and Grant Pinkstaff; her sister, Donna Crosby and husband David; her niece, Darla Guffey and husband Troy and their son, Jett; and many other extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Joan Abel, Clifford Junior Abel, and Donald Abel.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, perennials be donated in her memory to help create "Nana's Garden," a living tribute to her love of gardening and the beauty she brought into the world.
Paulette's life was one of simple joys, deep love, and enduring faith. Her laughter, her smile, and her gentle spirit will be dearly missed, but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
