Phil
Phillips
Apr 12, 1934 — Dec 26, 2025
Sand Springs
Garland Ray Phillips, lovingly known to family and friends as "Phil," entered his heavenly home on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the age of 91. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Phil was born on April 12, 1934, in Clarksville, Arkansas, to Roy Carter Phillips and Lessie M. (Patterson) Phillips. He grew up in Altus, Arkansas, where the values of hard work, loyalty, and service were instilled in him from a young age—values he carried throughout his life.
As a young man, Phil proudly joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He later continued his distinguished military career in the United States Air Force, completing three tours in Elmendorf, Alaska. He retired as a Master Sergeant, a rank that reflected his dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his country. Phil was deeply proud of his service and remained a strong supporter of veterans throughout his life. He was a member of American Legion Post 308 in East Tulsa and supported numerous veterans' organizations.
After his military service, Phil returned to civilian life and owned and operated a liquor store in Tulsa known as The Brown Jug, where many remember his friendly presence and sharp wit. Later, he went to work alongside his brother, Jerry, in the oil field service business around Fort Smith, continuing a lifetime of hard work and reliability. Never one to slow down, Phil found joy in life's simple pleasures—bowling during his years in Alaska, spending time at the Hard Rock Casino, and sharing laughs wherever he went. He lived in Alaska during the historic 1964 earthquake, an experience he would recount with vivid detail and his signature humor.
Phil was well known for his playful teasing and quick wit. He was truly a character—someone who could lighten a room, spark a laugh, and leave a lasting impression on everyone he met. His warmth, humor, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Kenneth R. Phillips; his parents, Roy and Lessie Phillips; three sisters; and four brothers.
Phil leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: two daughters, Linda Harris and husband Kim of Sand Springs, and Terry L. Greene and husband Chris of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grandchildren, Jessica Bagley and husband Cameron, and Erin Higgins and husband Derrick; great-grandchildren, Joseph Bagley, Tristin Barnes, and Bailey Barnes; and his special friend, Sue Miller.
Phil's legacy of service, laughter, and love lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered with gratitude, affection, and countless smiles.
