Pug was born on December 14, 1936, in Wetumka, Oklahoma, to Willie Boyd and Gracie (Lair) Boyd. She grew up in Sand Springs, where she met the love of her life, Elmer Henry Battenfield, at church. Their first date was at Coney Island, and they were married on December 31, 1952, at Bible Temple Church on the line. Together, they raised three children: Vicki, Sheila, and Mark, in Sand Springs.
Pug was a dedicated beautician who ran Pug's Beauty Shop out of her home for 55 years, later continuing her craft at Sand Springs Nursing Home while caring for her father-in-law. She was a past queen of the Red Hat Society, a longtime member of Sand Springs First Assembly of God, and a current member of Sand Springs First Church of the Nazarene.
Known for her vivacious personality and spunky spirit, Pug brought light to every room she entered. She loved working in her yard, transforming it into a picturesque park complete with a gazebo. She enjoyed playing softball, traveling to Branson, and evening rides with Elmer in one of their convertibles or motorcycles.
After Elmer's passing in 2013, Pug married Bob Schmidt, her family friend of 60 years, on December 6, 2018, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Pug is preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer; her parents; brothers: Pete, Rowland, Herman, and Avril; sisters: Effie, Margaret (lovingly called "Uncle Mog").
She is survived by her husband, Bob; children: Vicki Clarke, Sheila Moss and husband Randy, and Mark Battenfield; step-children: Barbie Gomez and husband Stan, and Mike Smith and wife Debbie; grandchildren: Kristi Wood and husband John, Angela Denton and husband Brad, Brock Battenfield, Sarah Van Zandt and husband Drew, and Daniel Donalson; great-grandchildren: Kiyah Dover, Jack Lauder, Clara Denton, Tatum Denton, Bryson Denton, and Kaydence Donalson; great-great-grandson, Lane Denton; sister-in-law, Teen Boyd; and a very dear niece who was like a sister, Nadine Tomlinson. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Pug's legacy of love, humor, and grace will forever be treasured by her family and all who knew her.
