Herman Ronald "Ron" Owens passed on Friday, December 30, 2022, surrounded by his family in Broken Arrow. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, at the Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodland Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 12-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Ron was born on January 27, 1938, in Clarksville, Arkansas, to Hermon L. "Runt" Owens and Frankie Willene (Jones) Owens. Ron graduated from high school in Hartman, Arkansas in 1956. He was a star basketball player and held the title of "Highest scorer in a single game" for many years. He continued his education at the College of the Ozarks where he received his bachelor's degree. After moving to Oklahoma, Ron went on a blind date with Dolores Keehn. After dating for several months, they were united in marriage on May 18, 1963, in Tulsa.

Ron was an Arkansas National Guardsman and a U.S. Army Reservist. He received an honorable discharge in 1961. Ron was a successful businessman in Muskogee for many years with his wife, Dolores. After his retirement, he continued working as a security guard for many years. He liked helping people, especially the homeless that wondered onto the properties. He had to make them move on and did it with kindness and dignity to them.

He loved motorcross racing with his family for many years.

In the last months, Ron was full of stories and a lot were repeated often. Everyone would listen like it was the first time hearing them. Ron will be dearly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Rita Jone Owens.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Dolores Owens; sons: Derek Owens, Jason Owens and fiance, Cynthia Weickenand, and Shane Owens; sister, Lynda Sampley; brother, Scott Owens and wife, Lorraine; and many extended family members.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Ste. 205, Lilburn, GA 30047.
