Shelby Ray
Flowers, Sr.
Dec 2, 1941 — May 31, 2025
Sand Springs
Shelby Ray Flowers, Sr., entered his heavenly home on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 83. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Shelby was born December 2, 1941, in Muncie, Indiana, to Earl Ray Flowers and Wilma Edith (Hennessee) Flowers. He grew up in Muncie and graduated from Muncie Central High School. As a teenager, Shelby loved "dragging" cars around town and later continued his education in college before proudly serving in the United States Navy.
While stationed in California, Shelby met Marlene Dolan, and the two later returned to Indiana and were married in 1964. Though their paths eventually diverged, Shelby married again in April 1971 to Nancy Mifflin. Together, they relocated from Muncie to Oklahoma and raised their family until their divorce in 1985. Over the years, Shelby shared life and companionship with several others. In 2013, he married Janice Tiger in Creek County, and they made their home in Mounds, Oklahoma. In March 2025, Shelby moved to Sand Springs to be with his daughter, Billie.
Shelby lived a colorful and hardworking life. He served as the Randolph County Sheriff during his time in Indiana and once worked as a milkman for Riggins Dairy Farm. In Oklahoma, he worked for Whackenhut Security and later founded his own company, S and N Security, in Owasso.
An avid outdoorsman, Shelby had three true passions: hunting, fishing, and, humorously noted by his family, women. He especially loved hunting alongside his grandsons Spencer and Nate. Shelby was also a skilled bowmaker and a proud participant each year in the Duck Creek Ceremonial Ground.
Those who knew Shelby will remember him as patient, loving, and ornery in the best of ways. He was quirky, deeply caring, and affectionately referred to as a "cute lil man" and a "legend" by his grandson. His stories, presence, and spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Miranda Flowers.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janice Tiger Flowers; his children: Shella Smith and husband Kevin, Earlene Victory and husband Bill, Shelby Flowers, Jr., and Billie O'Bryan; his sister, Darlene Flowers of Indiana; his grandchildren: Matt Smith, Morgan Heldman and husband Jason, Dustin Victory, Staci Nickel and husband Mike, Tiffany Flowers, Nate O'Bryan and wife Alison, Kelly O'Bryan, and Spencer O'Bryan; and his great-grandchildren: Tucker, Kaidin, Jaidin, Ainsli, Avery, Brylee, Nova, and Ezra.
Shelby leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of memories only a true character can create.
