Lifetime Sand Springs resident, Sydney Sue (Akins) Salyers, went to her heavenly home on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the age of 75. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Salyers, Charley Burgess, Tyler Burgess, Justin Burgess, Sree Krishnan and Mike Lawrence. Sydney will be laid to rest at Woodland Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday 12-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.

Sydney was born December 22, 1946, in Tulsa to Glenn Stephen Akins and Betty Jean (Ball) Akins. She graduated from Charles Page High School in 1964, where she served as majorette in the band and on student council. After high school, she went on to work for Oklahoma Natural Gas and Southwest Porcelain; until she became a licensed cosmetologist and ran her own salon out of her home. She later worked as a supervisor at Tulsa Adjustment Bureau and retired from Diagnostic Imaging.

On June 5, 1965, Sydney married the love of her life, Clint Salyers, at her family home in Sand Springs. Sydney cherished time spent with her family. Most of her time was spent at the baseball field, as well as cheering at football, softball, basketball, cheerleading, and wrestling. Her favorite job of all was being a grandmother and the grandchildren's biggest cheerleader at all of their events.

Everyone loved Sydney. She was witty, outgoing, sassy and put a smile on everyone's face. She was always joking and had a hug and smile for each person she met.

Sydney had a tremendous faith in God. She leaned on her faith for strength, as she knew that in times of trouble God will always give you the strength to get you through. She persevered through her long illness with toughness and grit. There will be a lot of rhinestones and bling in heaven with Sydney there. She will be forever in our hearts and missed dearly.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Clint; her parents, Glenn and Betty Akins; and step-grandchildren: Nathan and Kent Salyers.

Survivors include her children: Steven Clinton Salyers and wife, Valerie, and Andrea Burgess and husband, Charley all of Sand Springs; step-son, Marty Salyers and wife, Silvia of Tulsa; grandchildren: Tyler Burgess and wife, Casey, Justin Burgess and wife, Baylee, and Kennedy Salyers; step-grandchild, Denae Salyers; and great-grandchildren: Hudson and Bishop Burgess.
