Tommy Elmer
Cody
May 6, 1934 — Jan 7, 2025
skiatook
Tommy Elmer Cody was born May 6th, 1934, in McPherson, Kansas to Edward James Cody Sr. and Pearl Elen Cody. He grew up on the family farm in Iola, Kansas. He lived 33,119 days, which is 90 years, 8 months, and 1 day. Tommy passed from this life on January 7th of 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine (Gleeson) Cody, to whom he was happily married for 68 years. He's also preceded in death by his son, James Edward Cody; grandson, Patrick Harper; daughter-in-law, Kay Cody; parents, Edward and Pearl Cody; brothers, Edward Cody Jr., Eugene Cody, Wayne Beougher, Paul Beougher, Clyde Beougher and Don Hand; sisters, Clara Reed, Wanda Mae Chambers, Leah Robinson and Alma Krebs.
Tommy was a successful businessman with great work ethics. He was a strong and hard worker his entire life, until his health disabled him from doing much of anything. Tommy found something he really enjoyed doing as a young man while working for a wrecking company in Wichita, Kansas. Thereafter, he made most of his living doing what he enjoyed and worked in that capacity. He eventually owned and operated his own Company, "Ark Wrecking Company of Oklahoma". He was joined by his brother-in-law, Bill; his two sons, Jim and Tim and his son-in-law, Jerry. Many years later, he put his grandsons to work doing different things. They would work for a whole day (they claimed) for 50 cents and a bologna sandwich for lunch. Tommy's motto that he learned from his dad (Papa) was "A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss." He proudly passed that down to his family and was always saying, find something you like to do and stick to it! Despite Tommy's declining health, he attempted to work each day. He leaned on his family to help him do the things he could no longer do. When he could not physically work any longer, he found joy just hanging out in his shop watching others work while he supervised. He loved explaining how something should be done "the right way" (HIS WAY).
Tommy enjoyed traveling with his wife Maxine, as well as his brothers and their wives. He loved the great outdoors and life itself. His interests and hobbies included camping, boating, fishing and hunting with his family. He loved family outings and made great efforts keeping his family together. He ensured his family celebrated every holiday together. After the passing of his wife, Tommy was lonely and attempted to create happiness. He reconnected with an old friend, Kimberly Durst. Tommy and Kim made several good memories over the past two and a half years, including their baptism.
Tommy is survived by his son, Timothy Cody; daughter, Patricia Harper and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Misty Lee Cody, Matthew Cody and wife April, Timmy Cody and wife Misty D., Trey Harper and wife Johnna, Anthony Harper and wife Amanda, Thomas Cody and wife Tylyn; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. Tommy has been a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many. We are thankful and blessed to have been able to have Tommy on this earth for 90 plus years and to have been a part of his life. Fly high Tommy, we will see you again someday!
