Together, they built a life filled with family, faith, hard work, laughter, travel, and countless memories.

Verba Jean Yost entered her heavenly home on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the age of 90. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, at Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery, with her niece, Reverend Kathy Barnes, officiating.

Verba was born on June 7, 1936, in Covington, Oklahoma, to John Martin Wattenbarger and Sadie Elizabeth (Rippee) Wattenbarger. She was the youngest and last of five children. Verba attended school in Enid through junior high before moving to Sand Springs, where she graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1954. She was especially proud of having studied shorthand during her school years and took great pride in her typing skills as well.

After high school, Verba went to work for Hunter's Horn, a magazine devoted to coon hunting. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Walter Allen Yost. Walter was conducting a census for the Methodist Church when he first caught Verba's attention in a rather unforgettable way-he jumped onto the hood of her car to get her attention! That bold introduction was the beginning of a beautiful love story.

Her determination, strong will, and particular way of doing things were all part of the woman her family loved so dearly.

Verba and Walter were married on September 21, 1956, at her parents' home in Tulsa. They shared 63 wonderful years together before Walter was called home to Heaven. Together, they built a life filled with family, faith, hard work, laughter, travel, and countless memories.

Following their marriage, Verba devoted herself to being a homemaker and raising her family. She took great pride in her home and was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was always involved in her children's school activities, serving as a homeroom mom and as a PTA officer for many years. Her family knew they could always count on her to be involved, organized, and ready to help.

Verba loved to cook, and making pies was one of her specialties. She took great pride in preparing meals and caring for her family and home. Even in her later years, her interest in cooking never faded. She enjoyed watching cooking programs and learning new techniques, always interested in finding a better way to do things.

Verba and Walter shared a strong faith and enjoyed attending church together at local Assembly of God churches. Their faith was an important part of their lives, and Verba held firmly to what she believed. She was steadfast in her convictions. She had a wonderful attention to detail and took pride in seeing that things were done correctly. Her determination, strong will, and particular way of doing things were all part of the woman her family loved so dearly.

Above all, Verba treasured her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, strength, and devotion that will continue through the generations.

She is survived by her children: Randy Allen Yost and his wife, Pamela, and Wendy Jean Elliott and her husband, Christopher; her grandchildren: Daniel Allen Yost, Jessica Rae Perkins and her husband, Michael, Hannah Jean Jimenez and husband, Levi, and Isaac Allen Elliott; and her great-grandchildren: Loralai Rae Perkins, Bennett Allen Yost, Sophia Jean Jimenez, Emerson Kate Perkins, Elizabeth “Elsie” Rose Jimenez, and Vivian Kate Jimenez.

Verba was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Allen Yost; her parents, John and Sadie Wattenbarger; and her siblings, Cleda Winburn, Veda Beeby, Carl Wattenbarger, and Lena Tillman.

Verba leaves behind much more than memories. She leaves a family who was blessed by her love, a home that was cared for with pride, a faith that remained steadfast, and a life that was shared faithfully with the man she loved for 63 years.
