Wanda Gean
Winzenburg
Dec 12, 1951 — May 7, 2026
Sand Springs
Wanda Gean Winzenburg passed from this life on May 7, 2026, at the age of 74.
She was born on December 12, 1951, in England, Arkansas. Wanda often jokingly insisted she was simply "born in England," leaving off the Arkansas portion with a smile. She grew up in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and graduated from Charles Page High School with the Class of 1969.
On July 16, 1970, Wanda married the love of her life, John Winzenburg, in Sand Springs.
Their love story began when John gave his friend, Randy, a ride to his girlfriend's house. Randy's girlfriend happened to be Wanda's best friend, and it was there that John and Wanda first met. The two immediately hit it off, beginning a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion that would span more than 55 years.
Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who cherished time spent with her family above all else. She especially loved supporting her granddaughters, Shelbie and Savanna, in their activities, particularly cheerleading and dancing. She rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on and took great pride in all they accomplished.
She was known as a wonderful cook, famous among family and friends for making what many considered the very best goulash. Wanda also enjoyed sitting outside visiting with neighbors, soaking up the sunshine, and spending time with the people she loved most.
Family vacations to Florida became treasured traditions throughout the years, with Destin holding a special place in Wanda's heart. She often spoke of how much she loved the area and dreamed of someday moving there. One of her favorite memories was celebrating her and John's 50th wedding anniversary with a special trip to Destin.
Wanda had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. She adored her beloved Maltese, Tye, and had a special fondness for her Boston Terriers, Brodie and Ellie. Her compassion for animals led her to become active with the Boston Terrier and Short Nose Rescue of Oklahoma, an organization close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Esther Turner; sister, Joyce Mulanax; her brother-in-law, Denver Mulanax; and Mike, Angie, and James Mulanax.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Winzenburg; her son, John F. Winzenburg, and wife Jamee; her granddaughters, Shelbie and Savanna; her sister, Carolyn Rogers; her nephew, Charles Mulanax; cousin, Mike and Barbara Adams; and numerous other family members and friends who will cherish her memory forever.
Wanda's visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at Woodland Cemetery in Sand Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boston Terrier and Short Nose Rescue of Oklahoma in Wanda's memory.
