William Edward "Bill" Taber, 76, of Sand Springs passed away at his home with his loving family by his side, on Monday January 29, 2024. Services for Bill have been entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Visitation will be held at the Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service on Sunday February 4, 2024 from 1 pm to 6 pm, with the family receiving friends and family from 2 to 4 pm.
Graveside services will be held on Monday February 5, 2024 at 11 am in the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma with military honors provided by the US Army.
Bill was born in Sand Springs, OK on June 27, 1947 to Floyd and Jacqueline (Logan) Taber. Growing up Bill loved baseball and he loved his brothers. He was a star catcher for a traveling baseball team. Bill attended Charles Page High School and shortly after was drafted into the US Army on November 7, 1966. He was honorably discharged as an SP4 on April 24, 1969.
After discharge, Bill worked as a Silo expert and supervisor at Southwest Porcelain of Sand Springs. He then spent many hard-working years as an oilfield roustabout worker and pump technician at Pioneer Pipe & Supply in Sand Springs. Eventually employed by the Sand Springs School system, Bill was trained as a heat and air technician where he helped keep the teachers and kids comfortable in the extreme Oklahoma weather.
He married the love of his life, Joyce Marcella (Lierly) Greenwood on February 20, 1980 in Miami, OK. For many years they lived in Sand Springs, where they raised their family. They then moved to Shawnee, OK for a couple years, before moving back to Sand Springs in 2012.
Bill enjoyed golf, baseball, wood burning, and gospel music. But the one thing he loved the most was sowing seeds for Jesus. Bill and Joyce sowed seeds together everywhere they went. Bill loved Jesus and the one thing he would want is for everyone to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife of nearly 44 years, Joyce. He is also survived by his son Paul Greenwood and wife Amy, his son Van Greenwood and wife Denise, and his only daughter Tiffany Warford and husband Blake. They have six grandchildren: Garrett Greenwood and wife Mary, Amanda Greenwood, Caleb Greenwood, Gavin Greenwood, Liam Warford and Sean Warford. And he is also survived by his brother Larry Taber and wife Linda.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Floyd Taber, Jacqueline Stich and husband Ray, and his brother Tommy Taber.
