Wylie Kern Shipman, Jr., 86, passed from this life on July 21, 2025.
Services are under the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
Wylie was born on February 11, 1939, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Wylie Shipman, Sr., and his wife, Mae. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force Reserve during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his military service, he dedicated 33 years of his life to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, where he earned a reputation as a tough but fair officer. Affectionately nicknamed "Goose" by his colleagues, Wylie was known for his willingness to leave his post to assist fellow officers whenever they needed help.
On July 23, 1960, Wylie married the love of his life, Lynne, at University Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together, they shared a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. Wylie and Lynne were faithful members of New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Sand Springs, where they found strength and fellowship throughout their lives. They especially cherished their travels to Taos, New Mexico, and Yellowstone National Park, which they visited for 22 consecutive years, often camping in a dome tent.
Wylie was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ride whenever he could, continuing to enjoy the open road until back problems eventually prevented him from riding. A true outdoorsman, he also had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, and the peace and tranquility of God's creation.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne, of the home, and was preceded in death by his parents, Wylie Sr. and Mae Shipman.
Wylie will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and a man who dedicated his life to service—both to his country and his community.
